Production Supervisor

Location: Ilkeston, Derbyshire

Duration: Permanent

Salary: £27,000 per annum + permanent employee benefits

This is a demanding and dynamic role which has huge potential to deliver operational change and radically raise standards within the client. Successful candidates will be required to work on a rotational shift basis of days and nights.

With responsibility for safety, resourcing, staff training and development, the achievement of production targets, in addition to actively promoting a culture of continuous improvement, every day will be varied, challenging and rewarding

Key activities:

  • Ensuring exceptional housekeeping (5s) and compliance with health, safety and environmental procedures and legislation.

  • Ensuring product quality meets, if not exceeds customer expectations (internal & external customers).

  • Ensuring ‘Green’ repairs are effective whilst undertaking root cause analysis to learn and ‘bake in’ in quality process changes.

  • Management of QA inspections ensuring daily checks are performed and reported in full.

  • Delivery of short, medium and long term production targets. Meet or exceed specific KPI in respect of Productivity, Waste Reduction, Rejects, Machine Uptime and Staff availability.

  • Effectively manage a team, within a defined area, to ensure just in time delivery of materials and other resources aligned to production plan (for example steel, seals, raw materials, admixtures, loose tools, PPE).

  • Develop a fully competent, knowledgeable team who strictly adhere to fit for purpose underpinning SOPs.

  • Identify and implement productivity improvements using lean principles.

  • Be aware of associated costs of production and endeavour to reduce, using the 8-waste principles, where possible.

  • Grow and develop the team making sure that personnel are not permitted to undertake tasks without the correct training, review and approval processes in place (sign-off).

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience of supervising / managing a production team, including performance & attendance management (essential).

  • Experience of implementing Lean / leading Continuous Improvement events (preferable).

  • Ability to create and maintain production reports summarizing plant performance & achievement of objectives will be necessary.

  • Commitment to promoting and actively developing safe behaviours & attitudes in line with the Company values (essential).

  • Experience of managing people with the confidence to tackle a variety of performance and other related issues, whilst ensuring adherence to HR compliance, processes & policies (preferable).

  • A commitment to own continued personal professional development is a prerequisite.

  • Displaying personal attributes such as tenacity, resilience, a positive mindset, assertiveness & strong desire to succeed (extremely desirable).

  • Good communication skills and ability to work under own initiative is (essential).

  • To already have, or ability to quickly attain an IOSH Certificate in Managing Safety (3 day) (essential).

  • To commit to undertake VFL Training and actively practise techniques as part of routine safety based conversations (essential).

  • To already have, or be able to quickly and successfully achieve “Train The Trainer” status (essential) – to support formal sign off of staff T&D plans

  • To be First Aid trained – Emergency Responder - essential, willingness to become an Appointed Person – very desirable.

  • To be capable of organising and leading daily team pre-shift briefings (essential).
